Tape in the Sign & Display Industry – A Deep Dive
A couple weeks ago, we discussed the use of tape in various construction industries and how its role has morphed over the past few decades. Today, we want to take a more in-depth look at adhesive tapes specifically with how they’re utilized in the sign & display industry.
Many industries benefit from the convenience and simplicity of tapes versus traditional liquid adhesives. High-bond tape is easy to apply and can be semi-permanent or fully permanent. Adhesive tapes are also ideal for scenarios in which rivets or other mechanical fasteners would bend or warp the sign in question.
The Sign & Display Industry
For decades, the sign & display industry has been working to discover innovative solutions to common problems. High-bond adhesive tapes have solved a large number of those problems, and continue to drive innovation to this day. Technology has allowed the sign & display industry to print on a wider range of substrates than ever before, making the adhesives’ job even harder – fortunately, our high-bond tapes are up to the challenge.
Adhesive Tape and the Industry
The benefits of adhesive tape to the sign & display industry have been plentiful. They provide fast, easy, clean adhesion to a wide variety of surfaces and eliminate many of the common problems that mechanical fasteners pose. Some standard applications of adhesive tapes in the sign & display industry are:
- Road traffic signs
- Bonding A-frame signs
- Fixing LED strip lights
- Fixing individual letter signs
- Bonding polycarbonate for illuminated signs
- And much more!
Many of these applications require extremely high-quality metal fabrication to withstand environmental factors such as wind. High-bond tapes are ideal for these fabrications because they do not cause distortion of the plates or metal fatigue like traditional mechanical fasteners or welding might cause.
Tapes are also better equipped to handle extreme climate changes. Acrylic foam tape, for example, can better withstand the surface expanding and contracting without allowing the sign to warp or disfigure in any way without losing any adhesion properties.
Illuminated signs pose a challenge for adhesives because LED lights put off UV light, which can deteriorate most adhesives. Clear acrylic foam tapes are capable of withstanding UV light without deteriorating or discoloring, making them ideal for mounting and securing illuminated signs.
