Product Spotlight – Tesa’s 60150 and 60151 Adhesion Promoters
As the world leader in industrial tapes, you could say that when it comes to adhesive tapes of many sorts, Tesa has mastered the technology and the market worldwide. In addition to common tapes like masking tape, Tesa offers a host of others, like heat tape, V-groove tape, double sided tape, and acrylic core foam tapes. It’s our honor at Chemical Concepts to be Tesa’s Northeast distributor for their quality, uniquely strong signage tapes.
To increase the capacity of these already strong bonds would be saying something; that’s why we’re covering two variations of an adhesion promoter from Tesa, designed to improve adhesion to certain substrates.
Tesa 60150 – To be used in combination with Tesa’s ACXplus adhesive line, the 60150 is purposed to increase adhesion on surfaces like zinc, steel, and PP/EPDM. It’s also favored for other substrates, such as plastics and powder coated surfaces. When used with the ACXplus tapes, much higher peel strength can be achieved. Further, the UV-traceability characteristics of the 60150 allow for good quality control throughout the application timeline.
Tesa 60151 – 60151 from Tesa, pictured below, is a similar promoter as the 60150, but has a specialty: glass. Its design allows it to greatly enhance the bond of Tesa’s pressure-sensitive tapes, like the ACXplus series, on glass surfaces specifically. Although not preferred for lacquered or foil-coated glass, this product does work to ensure moisture resistance and permanent stick on most glass substrates.
Application
For both the 60160 and 60151, the application process is fairly straightforward.
- Before the promoter is applied, clean the bonding surface with a lint-free cloth using the necessary solvents, like ethanol or isopropanol alcohol. This should remove things like moisture, grease, or dust.
- Apply the promoter – Using a lint-free cloth, wetted with the promoter solution, wipe once and in a single direction. Without delay, use a separate cloth to clear any excess solution.
Tips
- The entire surface should be coated with the promoter for best results
- A squeaking noise will usually indicate good layer thickness when applying the promoter
- Wait – Hold on for at least 30 seconds, for the solvents in the solution to evaporate, before applying the tape. This should happen within 15 minutes after evaporation.
Products to be used in association with 60150 and 6151
As we mentioned, these promoters should be used in combination with the ACXplus line of tapes from Tesa. These come in various types, 10 to be exact, all doing a great deal to bond strongly, dissipate stress, and resist the challenges of water and weather. These acrylic core tapes are advisable for longer term outdoor scenarios, transparent bonds, hard-to-bond materials, and bonding parts that are uneven or irregular.
