Product Spotlight – Dunabond’s HDU Adhesives

As a relatively new product on the scene as it relates to our adhesive offerings repertoire here at Chemical Concepts, we’re especially glad to highlight Dunabond’s 3140 and 3206 HDU adhesives. Sign Industry experts may know of Dunabond’s authority in the area of HDU sign board bonding adhesives, which have proven to be “where creativity and quality meet innovation.”

Dunabond HDU adhesivesHDU defined – High Density Urethane material, or HDU, is a material that has been used increasingly in the sign industry for several reasons. Compared with wood, HDU simply lasts much longer, it doesn’t absorb anything that would lead to its deterioration, it’s much easier to shape and sculpt, and it’s highly resistant to peeling, rotting, and cracking. Further, it poses no hazard to the environment, and in fact, most HDU boards are compliant with today’s green building standards.

The Product(s) – Having unveiled this HDU adhesive technology at last year’s International Sign Association Expo, Dunabond’s 3206 and 3140 HDU adhesives are still relatively new, but certainly not without quality results. These single-part urethane adhesives are designed uniquely to bond large HDU panels or similar substrates with ease. They can be used to bond expanded materials like polyurethane, polystyrene, and phenolic, as well as metal, fiberglass laminates, wood, ceramics, and concrete. Additionally, because of their versatility in bonding a wide variety of surfaces and materials, they’ve transformed a many times multiple product project into a single product, focused job that saves time and energy.

Fast Facts – Here are just a few of the clear benefits of these high performance HDU adhesives:

  • Solvent free
  • Waterproof
  • Can effectively seal, reduce vibration, and absorb expansion and contraction over time
  • Temperature resistant  and easily adaptable to environmental extremes– Can withstand temperatures ranging from -40 °F to beyond 176° F.
  • Short working time (The 3206 has a working time of 15-18 minutes while the 3140 is fit to begin work after about 35-40 minutes.
  • Water is not typically needed to bond non-porous surfaces

*With porous Surfaces, it is recommended to spray some water to improve and accelerate the reaction.

Great for Sign Makers!

The Dunabond 3140 and 3206 adhesives were created with the sign craftsperson in mind. These adhesives are truly tough yet can be sanded and carved with ease. These products also eliminate the need to stock several items with different functions or specialties, which can be the case with common HDU glues. Rather, these single-part urethanes can adhere to most surfaces, making them a fairly universal and versatile HDU adhesive choice.

Although the 3140 and 3206 work especially well with Dunabond’s own Corafoam® HDU technology, they are effective bonders for most if not all HDU boards on the market.

We at Chemical Concepts are proud to say that we’re now carrying both the 3140 and 3206 one- component urethanes from Dunabond. For more on these products or how they can make your life easier as a craftsperson or sign maker, please don’t hesitate to call us or email us.
