SCIGRIP Spotlight on Three High-Strength Adhesive Products

SCIGRIP (formerly known as WeldOn) brings nearly seven decades of experience in delivering smart adhesive solutions for use with bonding metals, composites and plastics. Chemical Concepts is proud to carry SCIGRIP high-strength adhesives, as well as vinyl, PVC, and CPVC substrates, along with many other related products. In this post, we would like to introduce three of the popular high-strength adhesive products.

SCIGRIP 58

SCIGRIP 58SCIGRIP 58 is a fast-curing, clear colorless, two-component, 100% reactive polyurethane adhesive that contains no volatile organic compounds (VOC). When mixed and applied, it polymerizes at room temperature to form high bonds within a few hours. The adhesive has excellent resistance to discoloration by UV light and has excellent lap shear and impact strength.

How Can SCIGRIP 58 Be Used?

SCIGRIP 58 is recommended for a variety of applications in the sign assembly industry, especially butyrate trim cap to polycarbonate in channel letter applications. It also has many uses in other plastic fabrication industries for bonding ABS to PETG.

SCIGRIP® 58 is formulated for bonding a wide variety of thermoplastics, including polycarbonate, butyrate, PETG, anti-static acrylic, ABS, PVC, polyurethane and foam board to themselves and one another.

SCIGRIP 40 Kit

SCIGRIP 40 KitSCIGRIP 40 is a two-component, clear, medium syrupy, low VOC, reactive acrylic adhesive. It polymerizes at room temperature, forming high strength joints within a few hours. The cemented joint retains high clarity, good strength and resistance to the effects of weathering and aging. In cases where a lower viscosity is desired, SCIGRIP 3061 may be used as a reactive diluent. When adjusting viscosity, similar curing characteristics will be maintained when no more than 10% of SCIGRIP 3061 is added to SCIGRIP 40 Component “A.” This product meets Military Spec A-8576C Type III.

How Can SCIGRIP 40 Be Used?

SCIGRIP 40 is recommended for bonding of acrylic plastics especially where good clarity retention is required. It is versatile and can be used in many applications such as sign fabrication, the manufacturing and repair of aquariums, museum quality display cases and other plastic fabrication.

SCIGRIP® 40 is especially formulated to bond extruded, cast, and cross linked acrylic (poly-methyl methacrylate) sheets. It will also bond acrylic to polyester, cellulose acetate butyrate, polycarbonate, PVC, ABS, PETG and other materials.

SCIGRIP 10 Kit

SCIGRIP 10 KitSCIGRIP 10 is a two-component, white, high strength adhesive. It cures by the reaction of base Resin A with Catalyst B.

How Can SCIGRIP 10 Be Used?

SCIGRIP 10 is recommended for a variety of applications due to its high strength and versatility as a structural adhesive. It is used in the sign assembly industry for bonding a variety of plastics. It also has many uses in other fabrication industries that bond ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, PVC and other plastic substrates.

SCIGRIP® 10 is formulated for large PVC pipe and fittings, but has been found to bond many other plastics and non-plastics. Preliminary tests show good bond strength with PVC (vinyl) – rigid and flexible (with low plasticizer content), ABS, polycarbonate, styrene, acrylics, butyrate, hard rubber and possibly others not yet tested. It does not bond well to Neoprene or other synthetic rubber, Delrin, Celcon and a few other plastics.
