Do You Need a Primer When Using the LORD Metal Bonding Adhesives?
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Last month we broke down the best way to bond “x” to “y” in our well received bonding blog. As the adhesives experts, we here at Chemical Concepts have often found that once you determine the best way to bond something, there may be a few follow-up questions. In our blog today we’ll answer one of our most common questions that relates specifically to metal bonding. As the title suggests, that question is whether or not a primer is required when using the LORD metal bonding adhesives.
One of the great things about working with LORD structural adhesives is that they’re known for no-prep and primer-less adhesion, which means that you don’t have the extra expense and/or hassle of labor and material costs typically associated with needing a primer.
While you don’t need a primer, you do need a surface that is free of dirt, oil, greases, and other foreign particles, so we usually recommend wiping down the surface with a dry rag using isopropyl alcohol. We recommend this as it won’t leave a residue that causes the bonding problems you typically see with commercial cleaners.
